Fintech company Utorg has officially launched Utapp, a new self-custodial crypto wallet and card application for iOS users. The launch on August 21, 2026, consolidates the company’s consumer offerings into a single environment designed to bridge the gap between user-controlled digital assets and everyday global payments.
The new application allows users to buy, hold, swap, and spend their cryptocurrency directly from a non-custodial wallet. This means users, not the company, retain full control over their private keys and funds. Utorg, which is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, already serves over two million users in more than 130 countries with its existing products for Android and business infrastructure.
A deeper look into the Utapp crypto wallet’s functionality
The release of Utapp is more than a simple rebrand for iOS; it introduces a new product platform for Utorg’s future expansion. According to Co-founder Daniel Stolberg, the app is the “product home we have built for the next phase of our business expansion.” He emphasized that the goal is to add new features while keeping user control paramount.
Existing iPhone users of Utorg’s previous services can migrate to Utapp by using their recovery phrase to restore their wallets and cards. This move is specific to iOS, with Android users continuing to use the existing Utorg App. For anyone new to self-custody, it’s essential to follow a comprehensive wallet security guide to protect their assets.
The Utapp platform rolls out with a comprehensive suite of features aimed at both new and experienced crypto users. At its core, the app delivers on the promise of an all-in-one financial tool for digital assets. The company has focused on creating a seamless user experience that does not compromise on the core principles of decentralization.
Key features of the new Utapp application
- True Self-Custody: Users have exclusive control over their private keys, meaning Utorg cannot access or move their funds. This is a critical distinction from custodial services where the platform holds assets on behalf of the user.
- Gasless Swaps: The app introduces gasless cryptocurrency swaps, simplifying the process of trading one digital asset for another by abstracting away one of the more complex aspects of on-chain transactions.
- Integrated Crypto Card: Users can get a virtual Visa card almost instantly after completing KYC. This card allows spending crypto at over 80 million merchants worldwide that accept Visa.
- Multi-Chain and Asset Support: The wallet supports over 170 different cryptocurrencies across more than 12 blockchains, including major networks like Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Solana, and BSC.
- Flexible Funding and Cashing Out: The app supports direct crypto purchases using Apple Pay, Google Pay, and over 30 other local payment methods. Users can also sell crypto and cash out directly to a bank account.
The strategic importance of self-custody and global spending
Utorg’s emphasis on a non-custodial model is a significant strategic choice. In an industry where centralized platform failures and security breaches are a constant concern, providing users with full control over their assets is a powerful selling point.
By pairing this security-focused approach with a globally accepted Visa card, Utorg is directly addressing the long-standing challenge of crypto utility. This push for real-world usability comes as a bullish market shift increases overall engagement. While many can buy and hold crypto, spending it in the real world remains cumbersome.
The Utapp card aims to solve this by allowing users to pay with their stablecoin balance, which is then converted to local currency for the merchant, reportedly without foreign exchange markups from banks.
The company reports significant traction already, with over $150 million spent via the Utorg Card and an average of over 7,000 daily purchases. These figures suggest a strong product-market fit for users who want to use their digital assets for more than just speculation. The ability to top up the card with USDC from five different blockchains adds a layer of flexibility.
Navigating global regulation and future growth
Significantly, Utorg states its products are MiCA-compliant. This adherence to the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation is a clear signal of the company’s intent to operate within established legal frameworks. For users, it provides a degree of confidence that the service is built to last and can navigate the evolving environment of new regulations, particularly within the large EU market.
The company, which was founded in 2019 and is backed by prominent venture firms Dragonfly and TA Ventures, sees Utapp as a foundational step. “It gives us a stronger foundation to bring new wallet, card and payment products to users,” Stolberg commented. This positions Utapp not just as a wallet, but as the central hub for a growing ecosystem of financial products.
Looking ahead, Utorg has confirmed that it will be making further announcements in the coming months. These are expected to include new partnerships, additional product features, and further steps in its global expansion plans. The launch of Utapp provides the company with a unified platform to build upon as it aims to capture a larger share of the retail crypto market.
