XRP Ledger activates fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment for enhanced stability

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is poised for a significant system upgrade as its fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment activates on July 29, 2026, at 09:57:00 AM UTC. This bundled maintenance release aims to introduce crucial technical improvements and bug fixes, reinforcing the network’s stability and reducing operational risks for users and institutions alike.

It marks a critical step in the ongoing efforts to bolster the foundational integrity of the XRPL ecosystem.

Strengthening Core Network Functionality

The amendment’s activation follows a rigorous consensus process, where 30 out of 35 trusted validators, representing 85.71% of the network, voted in favor of the change. This overwhelming support triggered a two-week activation window, ensuring broad agreement before the changes are implemented. The upgrade underscores the XRPL community’s commitment to robust infrastructure as the network continues to scale.

The fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment is primarily a cleanup and maintenance release, focusing on refining existing features rather than introducing new ones. It directly addresses several key areas within the XRP Ledger that required attention. These include accuracy and rounding issues affecting Single Asset Vaults and the Lending Protocol, which are vital components for decentralized finance applications on the XRPL.

Furthermore, the upgrade tackles reported bugs within the Permissioned DEX (decentralized exchange) and Permissioned Domains, ensuring smoother and more reliable operations for these specialized functionalities. It also validates non-canonical Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) amounts and integrates a zero DomainID check for permissioned domains.

A particularly significant feature is the addition of the invariant AccountRootsDeletedClean, designed to ensure that deleted accounts leave no accessible artifacts behind, enhancing overall data hygiene.

The XRPL’s Validator-Driven Amendment Process

The XRP Ledger employs a unique amendment system that relies on a decentralized consensus mechanism to approve any changes to its transaction processing. For an amendment to activate, it needs sustained support from over 80% of trusted validators for a period of two consecutive weeks. This high threshold is designed to prevent unilateral changes and ensure the network remains robust and secure.

For the fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment, the 85.71% validator consensus, with only five validators in opposition, clearly met this stringent requirement. However, for the upgrade to proceed without service interruptions, all node operators must update their XRP Ledger nodes to version 3.2.0.

As of July 22, 2026, roughly 57.87% of all nodes (489 out of 843) were running the updated version, with 37.75% (319 nodes) still on version 3.1.3.

XRPL Vet, a prominent validator on the network, highlighted the urgency of these updates, noting on X, “In less than 1 Week all nodes running XRPL versions below 3.2.0 will experience service interruptions. Please update your nodes, remind exchanges and projects to update as well!” This sentiment underscores the critical importance of node synchronization for maintaining network stability during such transitions.

Building on a Foundation of Security and Iteration

This upcoming upgrade isn’t an isolated event; it’s part of Ripple’s broader, ongoing commitment to enhancing the security and operational resilience of the XRP Ledger. The fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment directly follows fixCleanup3_1_3, an earlier collection of fixes targeting NFTs, Permissioned Domains, Vaults, and the Lending Protocol, which went live on May 27, 2026.

These iterative updates demonstrate a methodical approach to identifying and resolving network vulnerabilities.

Moreover, the push for a more secure XRPL gained momentum in March when Ripple announced the establishment of a dedicated AI-assisted red team. This team’s sole purpose is to continuously hunt for vulnerabilities, with the XRPL 3.1.3 release being the first security-focused output of this initiative.

The current version 3.2.0, released in mid-June, was primarily a cleanup and maintenance release that also included fixes from this ongoing security backlog.

Beyond these technical amendments, the core server software for the XRP Ledger is also undergoing a rebranding from “rippled” to “xrpld.” This change, introduced with version 3.2.0, aims to better represent the extensive XRPL ecosystem and minimize confusion with other Ripple-related products. This strategic renaming further solidifies the independent identity of the ledger itself.

What the Upgrade Means for the XRPL Ecosystem

For users and developers within the XRP Ledger ecosystem, the activation of fixCleanup3_2_0 translates directly into a more reliable and secure platform. By addressing identified bugs and refining core functionalities, the upgrade mitigates potential risks that could affect transaction processing and the integrity of various decentralized applications built on the ledger. This steady improvement is crucial for fostering trust and encouraging broader adoption.

The continuous efforts in network maintenance and security are particularly pertinent as the XRPL ecosystem expands. The ledger recently surpassed 8 million active accounts, a testament to its growing user base. Such growth necessitates robust infrastructure, making these cleanup amendments more than just technical necessities; they are foundational to the network’s future.

Looking ahead, RippleX developers have hinted at another XRPL software release, v3.3.0, expected in the coming weeks. This future update is anticipated to introduce even more significant amendments, including Batch, Confidential Transfers for enhanced privacy, Sponsored Fees and Reserves, Permission Delegation, and Dynamic MPTs. These planned features suggest a trajectory toward greater functionality and flexibility for the XRP Ledger.

While the focus remains on essential maintenance and security, the broader XRPL community also anticipates major milestones like the “Hooks” amendment. Currently in beta testnet since April 2021, Hooks would add basic smart contract functionality to the XRP Ledger, transforming it into a more programmatic blockchain. The consistent execution of upgrades like fixCleanup3_2_0 builds confidence that the network can reliably support such ambitious future developments.

Meanwhile, the annual Swell conference, organized by Ripple, is set to gather industry leaders and builders in New York City later in 2026. This event, featuring speakers like Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, and David Schwartz, CTO Emeritus at Ripple, often serves as a forum for strategic announcements and community engagement regarding the XRPL’s evolution.

Recent moves, such as Ripple joining the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member to support agentic payments, further indicate the broadening scope of the ecosystem.

The stability enhancements from fixCleanup3_2_0 are fundamental to ensuring that new features and increased adoption can be sustained without compromising network integrity. As XRP speculative activity continues to ebb and flow, the underlying technology’s reliability remains paramount. This diligent approach to maintenance contrasts with some broader DeFi ecosystem security concerns seen elsewhere, positioning the XRPL for more resilient growth.
