Michael Saylor hints at new Bitcoin strategy after four weeks without fresh buys

Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy Inc., continues to signal Strategy’s ongoing Bitcoin accumulation with a cryptic July 26, 2026, post. , has once again ignited speculation regarding the company’s Bitcoin accumulation strategy. He posted a cryptic message to X on Sunday, July 26, 2026, featuring Strategy’s Bitcoin acquisition chart alongside the caption, “We’re gonna need another color.”

This marks the fifth consecutive Sunday Saylor has shared such a chart, but significantly, it follows four straight weeks where Strategy Inc. has not publicly disclosed any new Bitcoin purchases.

Saylor’s signature cryptic signals and past patterns

The latest post comes as market participants keenly watch Strategy’s movements, particularly given a recent shift in its capital allocation framework and a period of relative dormancy in its signature Bitcoin buys. Saylor’s communication style often precedes major announcements, making his Sunday posts a closely monitored event for those tracking institutional Bitcoin activity.

Saylor’s method of hinting at Strategy’s intentions through social media has become a characteristic element of his public persona. Historically, his Sunday posts featuring the company’s Bitcoin tracker chart have often preceded a Monday disclosure of a new acquisition.

However, that pattern has become less predictable in recent months. For instance, a June 28 post that read “We’re gonna need more charts” was followed by an announcement of a new capital framework, not a Bitcoin buy. Similarly, a July 5 tweet preceded the disclosure of the largest Bitcoin sale in Strategy’s history, underlining a potential diversification in the company’s financial maneuvers.

A four-week pause in Bitcoin acquisitions

Strategy Inc. last confirmed a Bitcoin purchase between June 15 and June 21, acquiring 520 BTC for approximately $34.9 million at an average price of $67,068. Since then, the company’s filings on June 29, July 6, July 13, and July 20 have recorded no further Bitcoin acquisitions.

Instead, the most recent filing revealed $263.5 million from MSTR share sales, which contributed to an increase in its dollar reserves to $3.225 billion. This period of non-purchase contrasts with Strategy’s well-known strategy of continuously adding Bitcoin to its balance sheet, raising questions about the immediate direction of its digital asset strategy.

Strategy’s evolving capital framework and financial standing

The company adopted a new capital framework in late June, which broadens its potential uses for cash beyond just acquiring Bitcoin. This revised strategy includes provisions for a $1 billion repurchase program for its digital credit securities and a separate $1 billion common stock buyback initiative.

Crucially, the framework also introduced a BTC Monetization Program, permitting the sale of up to $1.25 billion worth of Bitcoin. This comprehensive shift suggests a more dynamic approach to capital management, potentially balancing Bitcoin accumulation with other financial priorities and shareholder value initiatives. Saylor has previously used color metaphors, asking “Orange or Green?”

in January, referencing whether the company would add Bitcoin (orange) or dollars (green) to its holdings.

Current Bitcoin holdings and market position

As of its July 20 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Strategy Inc. holds a substantial 843,775 BTC. The company’s average cost for these holdings stands at $75,476 per Bitcoin. With Bitcoin trading around $64,600 on Sunday, the overall position is currently approximately $9.3 billion underwater when compared to the $63.69 billion Strategy has spent building its Bitcoin reserves.

The company’s stock, MSTR, closed Friday at $91.67, a slight decline from $94.85 the previous Friday. These figures highlight the significant impact of Bitcoin’s price fluctuations on Strategy’s balance sheet and equity valuation, making any potential shift in acquisition strategy particularly noteworthy for investors.

Redefining mNAV and a new financial language

This past week also saw Strategy Inc. implement a significant change in how it measures its value. On July 23, the company redefined its “mNAV” metric, which now calculates its share price divided by net Bitcoin per share in dollar terms.

This new calculation specifically deducts senior claims, such as perpetual preferred stock and out-of-the-money convertible debt, net of its dollar reserve. Saylor himself framed this overhaul on X, stating that the evolving Bitcoin capital markets necessitate a “new financial language.” This redefinition could influence how investors assess Strategy’s underlying value and its exposure to Bitcoin.

What Saylor’s “another color” might imply for investors

The latest “another color” tweet from Saylor introduces ambiguity into Strategy’s immediate plans. It could mean the company is preparing to resume Bitcoin purchases, necessitating a new color on their acquisition chart to represent a fresh phase or a different funding mechanism.

Alternatively, given the recently adopted capital framework, the “new color” might symbolize an allocation to other strategic objectives outlined in that framework, such as the share buyback programs or further dollar reserve additions.

It’s also possible it refers to a new type of asset acquisition beyond just Bitcoin, although the primary focus remains on the flagship cryptocurrency. The market will be closely watching for Strategy’s second-quarter results, scheduled for release after the U.S. market closes on Thursday, July 30, for clearer signals on its financial direction.

These quarterly reports have become critical inflection points, offering concrete data to interpret Saylor’s often enigmatic social media communications. The financial community will be scrutinizing whether Strategy resumes its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation, or if it prioritizes other capital allocation strategies as outlined in its updated framework.

The upcoming earnings call will likely provide more clarity, but for now, the “new color” remains open to interpretation, keeping investors and analysts on high alert.

The move also underscores the growing complexity in how public companies integrate digital assets into their treasury strategies. Strategy’s pioneering approach, initially focused almost exclusively on Bitcoin accumulation, appears to be maturing into a more multifaceted financial operation. The integration of share buybacks and a monetization program provides greater flexibility, but also introduces new variables into the equation of what a “Bitcoin company” truly entails.

Ultimately, Saylor’s latest message reminds the market that while Bitcoin remains central to Strategy’s identity, the company’s tactical decisions are evolving. The coming weeks, particularly with the Q2 earnings report, will be crucial in deciphering the precise meaning of this “new color” and its implications for both Strategy Inc. and the broader institutional Bitcoin landscape.
