Circle Bets $400 Million on Tazapay to Push USDC Deeper Into Global Payments

Circle is putting another $400 million behind its vision for USDC as the plumbing of global payments.

The stablecoin issuer has agreed to acquire Singapore-based cross-border payments platform Tazapay in an all-stock transaction expected to close in 2027. The deal would give Circle a broader network for moving money across Asia-Pacific and emerging markets.

Under the agreement, Circle will pay for Tazapay with Class A common stock. The final value is subject to adjustments tied to Tazapay’s debt, transaction expenses and cash, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The acquisition still needs to clear customary closing conditions and receive approval from Singapore’s Monetary Authority.

Tazapay brings a sizable payments operation to the table. The company processes more than $25 billion in annualized payment volume and works with over 60 banking and fintech partners, with local payout rails reaching more than 100 markets.

That figure marks a sharp increase from August 2025, when Tazapay said its annualized payment volume had surpassed $10 billion.

Stablecoins already account for roughly 60% of Tazapay’s transaction volume, making the company a natural fit. The stablecoin issuer had also invested in Tazapay through Circle Ventures, including its Series B round in August 2025.

Tazapay has raised $57.9 million across five funding rounds, according to Tracxn data.

Circle Is Turning USDC Into Payment Infrastructure

Tazapay has been a design partner for the Circle Payments Network since 2025, giving the two companies an existing relationship around cross-border transactions. Bringing Tazapay into Circle would deepen that connection while expanding the routes through which USDC can move money internationally.

Circle said the acquisition will strengthen its ability to originate and terminate payments around the world, with transactions designed to operate around the clock.

For Tazapay customers, the transition is intended to be largely invisible. The company said there should be no disruption to existing services, APIs, pricing or support.

The deal also gives Circle a larger foothold in regions where cross-border payments can involve multiple local banking systems, currencies and intermediaries. With Tazapay’s payout infrastructure already spanning more than 100 markets, Circle is effectively buying access to a wider set of payment rails rather than building each connection from scratch.

The company push comes as stablecoins increasingly move beyond trading venues and into the machinery of everyday money movement. In Tazapay’s case, more than half of transaction volume is already tied to stablecoins, showing that demand for blockchain-based settlement is not confined to speculative crypto markets.

Investors, however, did not immediately celebrate the announcement. Circle shares, traded on the New York Stock Exchange under CRCL, were down more than 2% in Tuesday premarket trading, according to Yahoo Finance.

The acquisition is expected to close in 2027, assuming it receives the necessary regulatory approval and satisfies the other conditions of the deal.
