Cardano Anchors 500,000 Brazilian Supply Chain Records on Blockchain

Cardano is moving deeper into the machinery of global commerce, with a new Brazilian deployment that has already anchored more than 500,000 supply chain records onto the blockchain.

The Cardano Foundation and Brazilian blockchain company Blockforce say the system is being used by exporters that need to prove where their products came from and, increasingly, that they did not come at the expense of forests.

The first large-scale implementation comes from Azzas 2154, Latin America’s biggest fashion conglomerate. Its leather supply chain spans more than 6,200 suppliers, and the platform has already handled more than 95,000 invoices in production.

That matters because European regulation is turning provenance into a commercial requirement. For Brazilian companies selling leather, agricultural goods and other products into the EU, proving compliance can be just as important as producing the goods themselves.

Cardano turns supply-chain paperwork into proof

The system does not put every piece of business information on a public blockchain. Instead, Blockforce uses a two-layer setup designed to keep sensitive details behind closed doors while still making verification possible.

Supplier identities, pricing, contracts and other proprietary information remain on Hyperledger Fabric, a permissioned blockchain network accessible only to authorized participants.

Cardano plays a different role. Rather than storing the underlying documents, its public blockchain records cryptographic proofs of those records. An auditor can use those proofs to confirm that information has not been altered without gaining access to the underlying commercial data.

That distinction is crucial for companies that want blockchain-based verification without publishing their supplier relationships or business terms to the world.

The economics are part of the story, too. Blockforce uses a batching protocol called uVerify to reduce the cost of anchoring individual records. According to the companies, the approach has cut the per-record cost by 92%.

The agreement covers a much larger runway ahead: 6.5 million records are expected to be anchored by 2030.

Why Cardano’s Brazilian supply chain bet matters

The immediate pressure comes from Europe. The EU’s deforestation rules require companies placing certain products on the European market to demonstrate that they are not connected to deforestation, while separate sustainability reporting requirements add another layer of documentation.

For exporters, that turns traceability into something closer to infrastructure than paperwork.

Fashion is only the opening act. Cardano and Blockforce have outlined plans to extend the system into automotive and pharmaceutical supply chains, where compliance requirements and documentation volumes can be substantially more demanding.

For Cardano, the appeal is equally straightforward: this is blockchain activity tied to an operating business rather than a technology demonstration.

The network has already been involved in industrial blockchain initiatives in Brazil, but hundreds of thousands of records processed in production represent a more tangible test of whether public blockchain infrastructure can quietly become part of the global supply chain.

And that may be the more interesting part of the story. The blockchain is not being asked to replace the database, expose every invoice or make logistics theatrical. It is being used as a layer of evidence—one that lets companies prove something happened without revealing everything they know.
