BSC Scan API officially ceases operations on July

BNB Chain’s prominent blockchain explorer, BSC Scan, is currently navigating a dual challenge: scheduled maintenance that may temporarily disrupt service and the official deprecation of its application programming interface (API). This combination of events, unfolding on July 22, 2026, necessitates that both users and developers find alternative solutions for accessing on-chain data.

While the BNB Smart Chain network itself continues uninterrupted operation, the outage impacts BSC Scan’s web interface and API services. This development underscores the growing importance of diverse tools for transparent blockchain interaction.

BSC Scan maintenance and API deprecation details

The scheduled maintenance for BSC Scan commenced at 6:00 AM UTC on July 22, 2026, with an expected duration of three to four hours. While some reports, like those from KuCoin, suggested a 2 PM UTC start for specific aspects, the BNB Chain confirmed it as a routine procedure.

More significantly, the BSC Scan API has officially ceased operations and is no longer supported. BNB Chain first announced this deprecation in December 2025, with dates varying slightly between December 18 and December 21, depending on the reporting source.

This API change aims to ensure uninterrupted service and enhance API performance for developers within the BNB Chain ecosystem. It’s important to remember that the BNB Smart Chain network processes transactions independently, so dApps and block production remain unaffected.

Impact on users and developers

Users relying on BSC Scan’s interface for real-time data — like tracking token movements or verifying transactions — will experience temporary disruptions. The network’s underlying operations, however, continue without issue.

Developers who previously integrated BSC Scan’s APIs for wallet balances or transaction histories face a more permanent shift. Their applications may experience limited functionality or delayed updates until they migrate to new solutions.

Reliable alternatives for BNB Chain data access

For both individual users and developers, several alternatives are available to access BNB Chain data during the maintenance window and following the API deprecation. These tools ensure continuous transparency and functionality within the ecosystem.

Direct explorers for continuous on-chain data

Users needing to track transactions and monitor wallet activity can turn to BSCTrace, which BNB Chain actively recommends during BSC Scan maintenance. BSCTrace supports comprehensive BNB Smart Chain searches, including tokens, contracts, and gas tracking.

Another viable option is OKLink, an active BNB Chain explorer that facilitates searches for transactions, addresses, and smart contract verification. Poocoin.app also serves as a direct explorer, offering real-time tracking and analysis of tokens on the Binance Smart Chain, complete with token swap and wallet balance tracking.

Developer solutions for API migration

Developers impacted by the API deprecation must transition to new solutions. The official replacement for the BSC Scan API is the Etherscan API V2, which utilizes a unified endpoint: api.etherscan.io/v2/api.

When using Etherscan API V2, developers need to include the chainid=56 parameter to specify BNB Chain data. For those seeking immediate and potentially more cost-effective options, BSCTrace via MegaNode presents a compelling alternative.

BSCTrace via MegaNode offers an immediate migration path and potential cost savings compared to Etherscan API V2’s paid model for BNB Chain. It also provides enhanced APIs and full JSON-RPC 2.0 compliance, catering to advanced developer requirements.

Decentralization and future infrastructure resilience

The reliance on a single dominant blockchain explorer like BSC Scan, even for a decentralized network, highlights a potential centralization point in the broader ecosystem. This event underscores the need for robust and diverse infrastructure.

Experts like Hanna Halaburda of NYU Stern School of Business have noted that over-reliance on dominant actors could threaten blockchain’s promise of decentralization. The availability of multiple, mature alternatives is therefore critical for maintaining the ecosystem’s resilience and decentralized ethos.
