Funding Rate — Complete Guide
💰 Payment Formula
Payment = Position Size × Funding Rate
Example: You have a $10,000 BTC long and rate is 0.01%, you pay shorts $1 every 8 hours.
📈 Positive Rate Meaning
When rate is positive, longs dominate the market. Longs → pay Shorts. Market may be overheated — good opportunity for shorts.
📉 Negative Rate Meaning
When rate is negative, shorts dominate. Shorts → pay Longs. Market may be oversold — potential reversal signal.
⚠️ Extreme Rates
Rates above/below ±0.1% are considered extreme. This signals heavy market imbalance and a strong potential reversal. Manage your position carefully.
🔄 Annual Rate
Shows how much you'd pay or earn if this rate persists for a year. Formula: Rate × 3 × 365 (3 payments per day).
🧠 Strategy Tips
High positive rate → open short to collect funding.
High negative rate → open long to earn funding.
