Bitcoin Can Now Jump From an X Cashtag to a Trade

For years, an X post mentioning Bitcoin was mostly an invitation to watch the conversation unfold. Type $BTC into a post, and you could pull up a price, a chart, and a stream of reactions without ever leaving the platform.

Now X wants to shorten the distance between talking about an asset and actually trading it.

The company has expanded its U.S. Cashtag Partner Program, adding a “Trade” button to supported asset pages. For users in the U.S., that button can send them directly to a participating trading platform.

The distinction matters. X is not becoming the brokerage desk behind the screen. It does not buy or sell Bitcoin, stocks, or other assets for users. Instead, the platform is positioning itself as a connector between its real-time conversations and external financial services.

Mridul Singhai, Product Engineering Lead at X, described the idea this way: “Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself.”

That makes the humble Cashtag a little more consequential than the shorthand it started as.

Originally, the feature was primarily a discovery tool. A user could post $BTC or $TSLA and instantly create a clickable path to conversations and basic market information. Over time, X added live pricing and charts, turning Cashtags into something closer to a financial dashboard embedded inside the social feed.

Now there is another step: the possibility of acting on what users are seeing.

Bitcoin Gets a New Route From Conversation to Market

X has named Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo as its initial U.S. partners.

The first three are closely tied to cryptocurrency trading, while Interactive Brokers and Moomoo extend the program into stocks and other traditional financial products. The result is a system that sits somewhere between a social network and a launchpad into third-party markets.

Monique Pintarelli, head of global advertising at SpaceX AI, framed the move around the way people already use X. “People come to X to discover what’s happening, shape the conversation, and act in real-time on what matters to them. Our Cashtag partners make it possible to move seamlessly from discovery and conversation to a brokerage, without breaking the moment.”

The company is also expanding the visual side of the experience through its Big Charts feature. Rather than limiting users to a compact price display, X now lets them open larger, interactive charts for selected assets.

Bitcoin is among them, alongside Ethereum, Ripple, Solana, Dogecoin, Tesla, Strategy, and Coinbase.

The timing also adds an awkwardly relevant footnote. The expanded trading functionality arrives after hackers compromised Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis’ X account and used it to promote SLINK, a memecoin. Elon Musk was inadvertently pulled into the episode, highlighting the same tension that now sits at the center of X’s financial ambitions: the platform is built for instant attention, but financial decisions carry consequences beyond the timeline.

X’s latest Cashtag update does not eliminate that distinction. It simply makes the path between seeing an asset discussed and reaching a place where it can be traded considerably shorter.
