Bitcoin Millionaires Near 100,000 as Seven-Figure Fortunes Spread Across Crypto

Bitcoin millionaires have become a surprisingly measurable group, at least on paper. Henley & Partners estimates that 92,272 people held at least $1 million in Bitcoin as of August 31, 2026.

That figure sits inside a much larger population of 135,694 millionaires whose fortunes are tied to digital assets. Bitcoin accounts for nearly 68% of that group, according to the firm’s 2026 Crypto Wealth Report.

But there is an important catch: 92,272 is not a headcount taken directly from the blockchain. It is an estimate built by combining on-chain data with adjustments for how crypto is actually held.

At the end of August, 12.82 BTC was enough to cross the report’s $1 million threshold. The blockchain showed 123,222 addresses holding at least that amount.

A wallet address, however, is not a person. One investor can divide Bitcoin across several addresses, while a single exchange wallet can hold assets belonging to thousands of customers.

Henley & Partners therefore adjusts the raw blockchain data. The methodology removes addresses linked to exchanges and funds, accounts for Bitcoin believed to be lost, and attempts to eliminate duplicates connected to the same owner.

That process leaves an estimated 61,272 people holding enough Bitcoin directly to qualify as millionaires. The firm then adds investors whose Bitcoin exposure comes exclusively through exchange-traded funds, bringing the central estimate to 92,272.

The report puts the statistical range much wider, at 74,000 to 114,000. In other words, the headline number is a midpoint estimate rather than a definitive count of every person with a seven-figure Bitcoin fortune.

Bitcoin millionaires thin out fast at the top

The higher the threshold, the smaller the club becomes.

Henley estimates that 290 people worldwide hold at least $100 million in digital assets. Of those, 151 are estimated to have crossed that level through Bitcoin alone.

At the billionaire tier, the numbers become even more limited. The report estimates 23 crypto billionaires globally, including nine whose fortunes would qualify as billionaires based on Bitcoin holdings. Henley gives a range of seven to 14 for that Bitcoin-specific estimate.

Corporate holdings do not count as personal wealth in these figures. Bitcoin held by companies such as Strategy is excluded from the calculation.

The broader digital asset market was worth about $2.62 trillion on August 31, with Bitcoin representing roughly $1.56 trillion. Once stablecoins are removed, BTC made up about 68% of the market value used in Henley’s calculations.

The timing is notable. Bitcoin was still roughly 38% below its record price above $126,000 in October 2025 when Henley measured these fortunes.

That makes the report less about a single market peak and more about how many large fortunes remain connected to Bitcoin after prices have moved substantially lower from their previous high.

There is another reason to avoid reading too much into year-over-year comparisons. Henley changed its methodology for the 2026 edition and explicitly does not publish an annual percentage change in the millionaire population.

So while the report provides a large headline number, it does not establish that the number of Bitcoin millionaires rose or fell by a specific percentage over the previous year.

Bitcoin ownership extends far beyond the wealthy

Millionaires represent only a small slice of the estimated Bitcoin-owning population.

Henley calculates that around 742 million people worldwide hold digital assets, with about half of them — roughly 371 million — owning Bitcoin.

The firm says it particularly used a 4.9% increase in funded Bitcoin addresses between August 2025 and August 2026 as part of its calculation.

That growth is happening alongside a growing professional interest in digital-asset wealth. Wealth managers are already preparing for greater exposure and potential new allocations, according to professionals cited by the report.

Still, counting crypto wealth remains fundamentally different from counting traditional financial assets. A private wallet does not arrive with a name, passport, or bank statement attached to it, and ETF ownership adds another layer to the calculation.

That is why the 92,272 figure is best understood as an estimate with a meaningful margin of uncertainty.

Even so, the number is striking. With Bitcoin still well below its October 2025 record, Henley estimates that tens of thousands of people worldwide now hold seven-figure fortunes directly or indirectly tied to BTC.
