Tokenized Stocks Hit 3 Million Holders as Trading Volume Falls

Tokenized stocks have quietly crossed a milestone that would have sounded ambitious not long ago: nearly 3 million people now hold them.

The category reached 2.96 million holders, helping push the total number of distributed tokenized asset holders to a record 3.67 million, according to RWA.xyz. Stocks account for 80.58% of all distributed asset holders, leaving commodities, credit and other tokenized assets trailing by a wide margin.

But the more interesting part of the story is what holders are doing with those tokens. Despite the explosive growth in ownership, trading activity has moved sharply in the opposite direction.

Tokenized stocks are finding holders, not traders

The gap is hard to miss. Tokenized stockholders jumped 159.31% over the past 30 days, while monthly transfer volume dropped 50.96% to $13.14 billion.

Monthly active addresses also fell 48.36%, reaching 760,339.

In other words, the audience is getting bigger while the market is getting quieter. More wallets are holding tokenized stocks, but fewer addresses appear to be actively moving them around.

That puts a subtle twist on the broader tokenization story. Growth in ownership can signal expanding access, but it does not necessarily mean investors are becoming more active participants.

Stocks have also pulled dramatically ahead of every other tokenized asset class. Commodities had roughly 332,000 holders, followed by asset-backed credit at about 91,000 and active strategies at around 81,000.

US Treasury debt, despite remaining the biggest category by represented value, had close to 73,000 holders. Real estate counted about 15,000, while venture capital had fewer than 1,500.

The numbers suggest that equities are becoming the easiest entry point for people encountering tokenized real-world assets onchain. Familiar names and familiar financial products may simply be easier to understand than tokenized credit, property or private-market investments.

The stock category now includes 5,246 individual assets worth $2.89 billion. That figure is up 14.03% over the past month.

Across all tokenized assets, represented value reached $386.92 billion, a 3.63% monthly increase. The distributed portion of that market climbed 1.54% to $39.15 billion.

The distinction matters because the headline value of tokenized assets tells only part of the story. The bigger question is how much of that value is actually being distributed across onchain markets and accounts.

For tokenized stocks, ownership is spreading faster than activity.

The slowdown is not isolated to spot markets, either. Real-world asset perpetuals recorded $122 billion in volume in August, down 13.5% from July’s record $141 billion.

Platform rankings meanwhile show where much of the tokenized stock value sits. Ondo led with $860 million, followed by xStocks at $631.2 million and bStocks at $627.5 million.

Robinhood had $133.2 million spread across 189 assets as its chief executive continued pushing for access to tokenized equities in the US.

That combination creates a curious picture of the market’s current mood. Tokenized stocks are attracting more holders at remarkable speed, but the rush into ownership has not translated into more frequent trading.

For now, tokenized stocks look less like a frantic new trading venue and more like a growing digital shelf of financial assets. Millions of holders are showing up. The next test is whether they eventually start moving what they own.
